Developmental Disability Support

Support Built Around Ability, Not Limitation.

GoodHeart Caregivers provides individualized residential and community-based support for adults 18 years and older with developmental disabilities.

Overview

GoodHeart Caregivers provides individualized residential and community-based support for adults 18 years and older with developmental disabilities.

Support is designed around each person's strengths, communication style, routines, preferences and personal goals — never around a diagnosis alone.

Who this may support

  • Adults who require assistance with daily living activities
  • Adults who benefit from structured routines and predictable environments
  • Adults working toward semi-independent living
  • Adults transitioning from a family home, hospital or another placement
  • Adults who require support with decision-making and community participation

Support Areas

How support is structured.

  • Daily Living

Assistance with meals, personal organization, housekeeping and everyday routines at the level each person requires.

  • Communication

Support aligned with each individual's communication style, including alternative and augmentative approaches where used.

  • Decision-Making

Supported decision-making that respects each person's rights, preferences and the role of guardians where applicable.

  • Life Skills

Cooking, budgeting, transportation, scheduling and independent living skills developed at a realistic pace.

  • Community Participation

Recreation, volunteering, education, employment preparation and social connection in the wider community.

  • Health Coordination

Coordination of healthcare and professional appointments, with medication support where authorized.

The GoodHeart approach

  • Person-centred planning that begins with understanding, not paperwork
  • Strength-based practice that recognizes what each person can already do
  • Positive behaviour support and trauma-informed practice
  • Continuous review as needs, goals and abilities change

A day can include

  • Preparing a favourite meal with a support worker
  • Managing a weekly grocery list and personal budget
  • Attending a community program or volunteer shift
  • Practising transit routes toward independent travel
  • Reviewing personal goals during a monthly planning conversation
